New words
DW says "Bless you", I say "Gesundheit", this morning CA said "Blessundheit". :-)

Sexist insurers...
I've had 2 people try to sell me life assurance/serious illness cover today - one a woman, one a man. *Both* of them pointed out to me that if DW died, I'd have to work, and that if I died, he'd have to pay for a creche. Remind me again what year it is?

Crafts
I've been teaching myself to knit and crochet in the last week or two - I don't think I've done either since I was in primary school. I'm pleased with my progress - I'm sure it seemed far more complicated last time I tried. Also had a coup in a charity shop during the week and got 8 balls of nice yarn for 50c a ball! (I was calling it wool till I watched a million podcasts/youtube videos on technique and started picking up the jargon.)

I have a set of crochet patterns and have been playing with them - have made 1 placemat with a very floppy border, 2 coasters (1 round, 1 square), and am working on 2 scarves in different patterns and yarns. Yesterday I knit a whole ball of yarn (yarn, yarn, yarn) into a panel of plain, plain and purl, and ribbed, then ripped it all back once I was happy with my technique. Have to find a genuine article pattern to knit something real next - I think I'll have enough scarves once I've finished the 2 crocheted ones.

Fun, fun, fun!

Wii fit
Loving the wii fit. Have been playing with discovering the alternative jogging routes the last couple of days - some very nice scenery on them.

Clocked up enough time at the weekend to turn my fit piggy bronze. :-)

More language developments...
CA has started to say "emmmm" while thinking of the answer to a question, and he's stringing more and more words together: "Mummy get blanket make tent. Daddy get up move head." He's a shocking bossy boots, but we love him. :-)

Shaving
DW shaved his beard off yesterday morning, while CA watched on. Since then, CA has pointed at the electric shaver every time he goes into the bathroom and gone: "hair hoover!" :-)

swank!
i booked us a w/e away to celebrate our anniversary. a few people told us where we were staying was swanky. until we arrived i was going "yeah, yeah, we've stayed in nice hotels before..." but this is *seriously* swanky - even in the cheapskate rooms! we nipped to the next village for lunch this afternoon cos i didn't fancy the veggie options on the barfood menu and on the way back we took the opportunity to measure the length of the driveway on the car's tacheometer - 1.3 miles! good grief!

What I'm good for...
CA gets notions of which parent is best suited to certain tasks. This evening, DW put him to bed, but was sent downstairs to get mammy after a short time to sing "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly" properly. :-)

New talent
Driving back from recycling today, I heard whistling coming from the backseat. My bub can whistle! I am *well* impressed. I seem to have memories of being taught to whistle by my older cousins when I was ~8.

CA is an endless source of entertainment, joy and exhaustion. And colds.

Sentences
CA has been making sentences for a few weeks now. His first was "itsa builder" pointing out his granny's window. DW thought I was being an overenthusiastic mother when I got excited about this, but since then he's added "whas tha", "sit down", "get up", "like bickie" and similar. He's also playing with adjectives like "happy" and "funny". Ducks tend to be both.

It's a crazy ol' world...
One of many stories that have made me wonder of late where it's all going...

Passwords and security
There was something on the radio this morning about research into passwords people use, and how the most commonly used password was "password", so I was pretty unphased when I went to get my hot chocolate this morning that there was a woman doing a survey on password usage outside Cafe Sol. In exchange for doing the survey, I got my hot choc for free - bargain.

The questions were innoccuous enough (how often do you change your password, do you have more than one password, do you use pet names/anniversaries as passwords and the like) up until the "and what _is_ your password?" question. I gave yer one a funny look and said "That's a trick question right? You don't think I'm _actually_ going to tell you my password?" She laughed and ticked a box for "wouldn't tell" or something. Then I asked her if *anyone* had told her their password and she said, actually about 50% of the people she'd asked. I'm gobsmacked! Given the type of businesses around this neck of the woods, she's probably been given some extremely valuable information this morning.

I didn't ask for ID or anything at the start, since I was quite confident I wasn't going to give her any information she could use against me, but I'm hoping she was a good guy.

She didn't ask me to sign an NDA, so you heard it here first, folks...

Follow the leader
We took a drive up to Aldi yesterday afternoon, but the standard route was jammed with people heading off on their holiday weekends, so we decided to turn right instead of left and try to find a back route. Off we went heading in generally the right direction in unknown territory till we saw a big green to our left that backed onto where we wanted to go, so we hung a left, only to discover the road we'd gone down was a small cul-de-sac. As I hit the brakes and prepared to turn and head back out a road, we realised that the 4 cars that had been tailing us for some time had followed us down the cul-de-sac and were all braking to sudden halts and starting 3-point-turns behind us. Presumably they all saw me turn right way-back when and decided "ah ha! someone who knows a good detour!". The last guy in the chain rolled down his window and shouted "Muppets!" at us in a good natured way and everyone seemed to get a laugh out of the situation, then we all headed our separate ways in search of a likely way out. :-)

First word?
CA may have spoken his first word. When we show him the aquarium in L's sitting room, he points and says "fzzzz" (fish?). Of course, he says the same thing when we show him the cockatiel and budgies, so he may think that's the word for small living creatures generally, rather than fish in particular. Cute, though.

So many firsts...
The last week has been a busy one for CA: he crawled for the first time, made his first international trip on an airplane, used his passport for the first time, played on grass (without being on a blanket or something) for the first time, played in a sandbox for the first time (and surprisingly, didn't try to eat the sand), had his first go on a swing (and *loved* it), first go on a slide (held and slipped down the last couple of feet), first go on a roundabout... Life is good.

Live youghurt is our friend
CA has been on preventative antibiotics for a number of weeks while waiting for follow on tests after a minor infection a while back. He's also been randomly vomiting with no secondary symptoms for about as long. I didn't make a connection until this week - doh! On consulting the PHNs they agreed enthusiastically that the antibiotics were *definitely* responsible and that live yoghurt would cure things. I won't go into details, but this morning we were provided with evidence that suggests our baby is cured of any major digestive tract upsets for now. Happy day!

And, somewhat unrelated, I'm 2 for 2 on meeting "famous" people on my nights off. Last night I went to see "Becoming Jane" with a friend and at the bus stop on the way home was asked for change of a euro by Anne Hathaway's hand double for the piano playing segments. :-)
